The Chief Building Engineer leads building turnover, commissioning, and maintenance operations, establishing systems and practices that prepare the property for residents. The role oversees building infrastructure, vendors, and the engineering team while supporting safety, efficiency, and resident service.
What you'll do
- Lead construction turnover, commissioning, inspections, punch-list completion, and building acceptance
- review turnover documents and establish asset records
- develop preventive maintenance programs, work-order processes, procedures, and emergency protocols
- oversee daily maintenance, inspections, repairs, and equipment performance
- monitor HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire and life safety, generators, elevators, controls, water, and garage systems
- manage inspections and regulatory documentation
- oversee engineering vendors and contractors
- hire, train, schedule, coach, and manage the engineering team
- maintain safety and regulatory compliance
- assist with budgets and cost-saving recommendations
- respond to emergencies and participate in after-hours/on-call coverage
- coordinate building services and communications with resident-facing teams.
