Robotics Field Service Engineer

Job overview

The Robotics Field Service Engineer role is onsite in Chicago, IL, with local and overnight travel required. Pay is $29–$44 per hour. Formic’s Fleet Operations Team supports uptime and performance across deployed robotic systems as part of its effort to make factory automation accessible. This role maintains and restores robotic manufacturing cells in customer facilities, helping keep production running and improve system reliability. The engineer diagnoses issues, supports customer teams, documents service work, and escalates recurring failure patterns.

What you'll do

• Perform preventative, corrective, and predictive maintenance on robotic manufacturing cells
• respond to remote and onsite escalations, diagnose root causes, and restore systems
• support customer operators and maintenance teams
• log service activity, asset updates, and spare-part requirements in CMMS systems
• coordinate field scheduling
• monitor system performance remotely
• document service work and follow-up actions
• identify recurring failures and escalate systemic risks
• follow safety standards including LOTO
• participate in root-cause analysis, audits, and continuous improvement.
