Public Works Inspector

The Public Works Inspector role is onsite in Syracuse, NY, with compensation of $44,850–$46,350 per year. The inspector works under the administrative supervision of the Commissioner of Public Works and supports enforcement of city solid-waste and related ordinances. The role investigates complaints and inspects properties and rights-of-way to identify sanitation, hazard, and code concerns. It documents violations, communicates required corrective actions, follows up on compliance, and contributes to public education and coordinated municipal enforcement.

What you'll do

• Inspect residential dwellings, commercial property, vacant land, and rights-of-way
• investigate complaints and potential ordinance violations
• prepare inspection reports and document violations, including by photography when appropriate
• notify owners or responsible parties of violations and required remedies
• follow up on compliance and apply penalties as required
• conduct public outreach
• approve vendor qualifications and authorize sublet work requirements
• and coordinate with city departments and public agencies.
