Residential Counselor

The Residential Counselor works onsite in West Roxbury, MA. Pay is $20.43–$27.64 per hour. The role is in Making Opportunity Count’s Community Services department, supporting families in an emergency shelter; the organization’s mission is to empower families to achieve economic security by eliminating barriers and creating opportunities. The counselor helps maintain a safe, structured, and welcoming 24/7 shelter while supporting residents through intake, case management, crisis response, and clear communication of shelter expectations. The role contributes to residents’ stability and personal growth through trauma-informed, client-centered support.

What you'll do

• Provide case management support to families
• communicate and enforce site rules
• respond to emergencies and document them
• complete intakes and support family transfers or discharges
• provide structure and respond to resident concerns
• initiate crisis intervention when needed
• maintain shift logs and compliance records
• monitor security cameras and conduct building rounds
• perform light housekeeping and inspections
• protect resident privacy and maintain professional boundaries.

Why this role
