Head Swim Team Coach

Job overview

The Head Swim Team Coach role is onsite in Malden, MA, with pay of $22–$26 per hour. The coach supports the Mystic Valley YMCA Aquatics Department and its regional swim team. The role develops and motivates swimmers ages 6 through 18 through structured practices, skill instruction, and team activities. It also coordinates meet logistics, supports safe pool operations, communicates with families and staff, and provides direction to assistant coaches.

What you'll do

• Provide a safe competitive training environment
• instruct swimmers in stroke techniques and skill improvement
• create and implement structured workouts
• coordinate meet calendars, entries, payments, and communications
• monitor pool activities and evaluate performance
• maintain facility safety and cleanliness
• promote positive behavior and team culture
• communicate with swimmers, guardians, and staff
• coordinate with aquatics leadership on schedules, staffing, and facility needs
• oversee weekly schedules for up to three assistant coaches and provide mentorship and direction
• attend scheduled YMCA meets and events.

Why this role

Coaching practices may be up to three times per week, with swim meets one weekend per month. Current Lifeguard/First Aid certification, Coach’s Safety Training, a valid Massachusetts driver’s license, and active USA Swimming Coach certification are required or must be attained as specified in the posting.
