The Mobile Railcar Repair Technician Lead role is onsite in Wheatfield, IN, with pay of $25–$35 per hour. The full-time role serves customer sites, rail yards, and other locations within a two-hour radius; up to three weeks of offsite training in Hamlet, NC may be required. Compass Rail provides railcar repair and transloading services to the rail transportation industry. The lead technician inspects, diagnoses, maintains, and repairs freight railcars, including tank cars and boxcars. The role emphasizes valve and fitting work, regulatory compliance, accurate repair documentation, safe field service, and communication with dispatchers, supervisors, and customers.

What you'll do

• Inspect, maintain, and repair freight railcars at customer sites and rail yards
• inspect, test, remove, install, and repair tank-car valves and fittings
• perform valve seat resurfacing, lapping, and leak testing using approved procedures and calibrated tools
• troubleshoot mechanical issues and perform structural and running gear repairs
• comply with FRA, AAR, and company standards
• complete inspection, valve repair, and regulatory records
• operate welding and cutting equipment for repairs when required
• drive and operate a service truck
• maintain parts and tool inventory
• communicate repair status and site conditions
• travel frequently within the assigned region.
