Space Designer

Job overview

The Space Designer role is onsite five days per week, predominantly in Germantown, MD, with work also at the Department of Energy’s Washington, DC office. Compensation is not specified. The position supports space planning and building projects at Department of Energy facilities in the National Capital Region. The designer coordinates projects through design, procurement, award, kickoff, execution, monitoring, inspection, and close-out. The role develops design alternatives and space diagrams, manages stakeholder communications and project updates, and tracks estimates and procurement requests to support project delivery.

What you'll do

• Coordinate assigned space-planning, design, alteration, and buildout projects through the project lifecycle
• provide design alternatives, recommendations, and cost estimates
• update customers and the Space Planning Manager
• use AutoCAD to develop space diagrams for engineering review
• review material samples and recommend designs based on customer standards or direction
• communicate project progress, issues, and risks to government management
• develop and review project estimates
• enter and monitor procurement requests
• identify stakeholders and manage communications, reporting, and status updates
• establish routine project meetings as needed.
