The position supports the Sheet Metal Department at Newport News Shipbuilding, fabricating and installing components for aircraft carriers, submarines, and other surface ships. The worker fabricates, assembles, and installs ship components using tools and technical work documents. The role contributes to ship construction by producing components such as ventilation systems, bulkheads, framing, cabinetry, ladders, and handrails to required procedures and specifications.

What you'll do

• Fabricate, assemble, and install sheet metal components for aircraft carriers, submarines, and surface ships, following technical work documents and procedures.
• Use hand and power tools and equipment, including drills, rivet guns, grinders, saws, plasma arc cutters, rollers, shears, press brakes, and CNC fabricators.
• Complete required training and meet physical and safety requirements, including work at heights and in confined spaces.
