The Shop Lead Mechanic role is onsite in Kalamazoo, MI. Pay is $30–$40 per hour, depending on experience, plus overtime pay. The position leads daily maintenance shop operations at PK Contracting’s Kalamazoo Division. The lead mechanic supervises shop personnel and coordinates repairs and preventive maintenance to support safe, compliant operations and equipment uptime. The role combines hands-on troubleshooting and repair with quality checks, regulatory compliance, and mechanic development.

What you'll do

• Supervise and coordinate diesel mechanics and maintenance personnel
• oversee repairs and maintenance of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical and air systems, brakes, suspensions, and other heavy equipment and vehicle components
• assist with complex diagnosis and provide technical guidance
• inspect completed repairs
• ensure DOT, OSHA, state, and federal compliance
• train and mentor mechanics
• maintain a safe, clean, productive shop
• perform hands-on repairs as needed.

Why this role

The posting requires at least five years of heavy equipment, truck, or diesel repair experience and the candidate’s own tools. Two years of supervisory or lead mechanic experience is preferred; CDL-A is preferred but not required. The schedule includes Monday through Friday and one additional weekend shift per month.
