Overnight Emergency Shelter Counselor

The Overnight Emergency Shelter Counselor role is onsite in Rochester, NY. Compensation is $20–$21.50 per hour. The Center for Youth operates a free, confidential, voluntary 13-bed shelter for youth ages 12–17, supporting family reunification or stable alternative housing. The counselor provides supervision, mentoring, and individualized support to youth in the shelter. The role also responds to after-hours needs, supports crisis intervention, and maintains program records and the facility.

What you'll do

• Supervise wake-up, cleanup, chores, and bedtime
• distribute medications and document appropriately
• coordinate with intake and shelter support teams
• provide individual counseling and mentoring
• respond to after-hours assessments and intakes
• develop and supervise activities
• support crisis prevention and intervention
• maintain records, facility, and grounds
• plan and prepare daily meals.
