The Senior Staff/Principal Software Engineer — GPU System Software, Onboard Execution role is onsite in Seattle, WA. The base salary range is $339,000–$455,000 per year. The role is part of Zoox’s Software Performance organization, which owns end-to-end performance of the onboard software stack for its purpose-built robotaxi. This technical leader defines how onboard AI workloads share and use GPU resources, setting strategy to reduce compute while meeting latency and safety needs. The role guides platform and hardware decisions, inference performance, and cross-functional execution, while mentoring senior engineers and aligning technical leaders across ML, autonomy, middleware, and hardware.

What you'll do

• Architect GPU execution for perception, prediction, and planning workloads, including scheduling, multi-tenancy, isolation, and deterministic latency
• own a multi-year roadmap to reduce onboard compute per vehicle
• set latency and utilization budgets
• guide GPU and SoC selection, topology, and memory budgets
• lead performance bring-up of new platforms
• set inference-stack direction across TensorRT, CUDA, custom kernels, and quantization
• partner with ML teams
• mentor senior engineers and align leadership through design documents.
