The Archaeological Field Crew Chief is a full-time, onsite role based in Columbia, SC, with extensive travel throughout the Southeast, Midwest and Mid-Atlantic. The role joins S&ME’s Environmental team, supporting cultural resource projects and the preservation and understanding of historical and cultural artifacts. The crew chief performs and directs field and laboratory work, research and reporting, while supporting project planning, scheduling and budget evaluation. The position contributes to accurate, high-integrity cultural resource work and requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field, at least four years of archaeological experience and National Historic Preservation Act Section 106 training.

What you'll do

• Perform and direct fieldwork and laboratory analyses
• conduct research and prepare reports
• process basic artifacts
• collect artifacts and conduct background and historical research
• assist with work plans, proposals, scheduling, deadline tracking and budget evaluation.
