Kitchen Assistant

The Kitchen Assistant works onsite in San Rafael, CA, approximately 26 hours per week. Compensation starts at $21 per hour. The role joins St. Vincent de Paul Society of Marin’s Kitchen and Guest Services team, supporting its food and crisis-assistance services for Marin County residents. The assistant helps keep daily kitchen operations safe, sanitary, and efficient while supporting meal preparation and service. The work contributes to the organization’s mission of providing food, housing, crisis assistance, dignity, and support to people in need.

What you'll do

• Wash, sanitize, and store dishes and kitchenware
• operate the dishwasher and conduct weekly chlorine checks
• clean kitchen areas and maintain floors, trash, and recycling
• prepare vegetables, salads, sauces, and bulk ingredients
• label and date items using FIFO standards
• receive, check, rotate, and stock deliveries
• support and train volunteers in safe food handling
• assist cooks during service
• monitor inventory
• maintain kitchen equipment and storage organization
• prepare the kitchen for opening and follow food-safety regulations.

Why this role

Part-time schedule is Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, 7:00 AM–1:30 PM. Entry-level candidates are welcome; prior kitchen experience is useful but not required.
