The Senior Thermal Engineer role is onsite in Portland, OR. Compensation is $155,000–$200,000 per year, plus company equity. Panthalassa is a renewable energy and ocean technology company developing technologies to harness ocean energy for renewable energy applications. The engineer owns thermal simulation and analysis from early concepts through fabrication and deployment at sea. The role translates thermal and environmental inputs into cooling requirements, supports rapid hardware design iteration, validates simulations against tests and field data, and builds reusable workflows for engineering teams.

What you'll do

• Own thermal simulation and analysis workflows for payloads, electronics, cooling systems, pressure-contained assemblies, and related mechanical systems
• build and execute thermal CFD workflows
• translate heat loads, packaging constraints, and environmental conditions into thermal requirements
• analyze thermal architectures and cooling parameters
• define cooling interfaces and design targets with electrical and mechanical engineers
• select modeling approaches appropriate to the question
• manage the simulation lifecycle from geometry preparation through validation and communication
• validate results against prototype tests, lab measurements, and field data
• develop visualization and reusable simulation methods
• partner with prototype and test teams on instrumentation, test conditions, and acceptance criteria.
