Civil Project Engineer II/III – Roadway Design

The Civil Project Engineer II/III – Roadway Design is an onsite role in Raleigh, NC. Compensation is not specified. The position joins Timmons Group’s Roadway Design Transportation Group, which works on transportation projects. The engineer develops roadway designs and supporting plans, calculations, and project materials to help deliver roadway widening and improvement projects. The role contributes technical analysis and coordination across design, field observations, client and contractor meetings, and project submissions.

What you'll do

• Design horizontal alignments and vertical profiles for roadway widening and improvement projects
• develop 3D models and plans using AutoDesk Civil 3D and/or Bentley OpenRoads Designer
• create visualizations for client and public presentations
• prepare plan sheets and project submission packages
• perform roadway and drainage calculations
• assist with engineering and construction cost estimates
• research and use open-source GIS data
• conduct field observations and data collection
• participate in client and contractor meetings
• stay current with emerging technologies.

Why this role

Requires a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field and 2+ years of transportation civil engineering experience, specifically roadway design. OpenRoads Designer or Civil 3D proficiency is preferred; VDOT familiarity and EIT certification are also preferred.
