• assign emergent, urgent, and non-urgent triage categories
• administer medications appropriately
• communicate patient status and diagnostic results to physicians and coworkers
• provide patient and family education
• consult other departments
• coordinate and supervise care as needed
• assist physicians with emergency department procedures
• document care
• support quality improvement
• address psychosocial needs and report suspected abuse.
