The Veterinary Technician Student Externship — Emergency Medicine is an onsite opportunity in San Diego, CA, at a VEG hospital selected based on availability. The externship is unpaid. VEG’s mission is to help people and their pets when they need it most. The program gives enrolled veterinary technology or nursing students hands-on exposure to emergency veterinary care under the mentorship of credentialed technicians. Externs learn through shadowing and assisting with triage, diagnostics, anesthesia, outpatient visits, and inpatient care while practicing skills required by their school.

What you'll do

• Learn from emergency veterinary professionals
• receive real-time mentorship from a credentialed veterinary technician
• shadow and assist with triage, outpatient visits, diagnostics, anesthesia, and inpatient care
• practice skills on the school proficiency checklist with guidance.
