The Substance Use Disorder Counselor – COAT role is onsite in Seattle, Washington, with services delivered across Seattle and nearby King County locations, including streets, shelters, jails, hospitals, supportive housing, and service centers. Pay is $39.08–$43.15 per hour. DESC is a social services organization and behavioral health provider; its Community Outreach and Advocacy Team supports vulnerable people navigating the legal system. The counselor provides outreach, engagement, treatment, and intensive case management for adults with serious mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders who are diverted from prosecution. The work supports continuity of care and aims to help clients lead safer, healthier lives in the community and prevent reincarceration.

What you'll do

• Conduct alcohol and drug screenings and assessments
• provide individual and group substance use disorder treatment
• develop support and treatment plans with clients
• facilitate groups as appropriate
• consult with team members on substance use treatment and harm reduction
• advocate for access to community resources
• coordinate continuity of care
• maintain clinical records and participate in reviews and case conferences
• assist with verbal de-escalation.
