The Senior Systems Safety Engineer role is onsite in Middletown, RI, supporting the Ranges, Engineering, and Analysis Department at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, RI. Compensation is $120,000–$170,000 per year. KMS Solutions provides engineering, analysis, and cybersecurity support to the Department of Defense and other government programs. The engineer evaluates systems throughout their life cycle to identify hazards and safety risks, investigate potential failures, and recommend mitigations. The role supports safety reviews and helps optimize safety while accounting for operational effectiveness, time, and cost.

What you'll do

• Analyze system design drawings, specifications, manuals, and other data for safety risks
• evaluate testing, operation, maintenance, and performance phases from a safety perspective
• investigate system failures and life-cycle hazards
• recommend measures to support safe and effective operation and reduce failure effects and frequency.

Why this role

Requires a Secret DoD clearance, a bachelor’s degree in a STEM field, at least 10 years of systems safety engineering experience, software systems safety analysis experience, and knowledge of MIL-STD-882E and the NAVSEA System Safety Engineering Manual. Telework may be allowed up to 40% after a six-month introductory period; travel up to 10% may be required.
