The role examines, diagnoses, and treats visual-system conditions, documents care, and coordinates referrals and services with ophthalmology, optical, and support staff. It also contributes to community education, screening programs, and quality improvement activities.

What you'll do

• Examine and diagnose visual-system and ocular conditions
• document histories, diagnoses, and treatment plans in the electronic health record
• prescribe and fit corrective lenses
• treat visual disorders with lenses, training, or therapeutic medicines
• refer patients as needed
• provide low-vision rehabilitation and vision therapy when necessary
• educate patients, health professionals, and the community
• support budget monitoring, performance improvement, screening programs, and quality improvement.
