The Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) role is onsite in New York, NY, with regular in-person work at an ACS field office in Brooklyn or in the community. Compensation is $60,000–$65,000 per year. The role supports Rising Ground’s Clinical Support Program embedded in child protective work. The CASAC assesses substance use in families referred to Child Protective Services, considers its impact on child safety, and recommends treatment, support, or harm-reduction services. The counselor also helps CPS teams make informed decisions and connects families with individualized community resources.

What you'll do

• Conduct substance use assessments using interviews, screenings, and standardized tools
• use evidence-based models such as motivational interviewing to assess readiness to change
• contribute substance-use expertise to CPS decisions and case conferences
• refer families to community services and recommend levels of care
• educate CPS staff on trends, treatment options, and engagement practices
• coordinate individualized referrals and warm handoffs
• attend relevant meetings
• provide after-hours consultation as needed.

Why this role

Requires a valid CASAC credential; CASAC-T and CASAC-P are not accepted. Monday–Friday work hours are 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. or 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m., with availability for after-hours consultation. Occasional travel to other agency sites or meetings may be required.
