Recreation Specialist

The Recreation Specialist role is an onsite position in Oneonta, New York. Pay is $18 per hour. The specialist organizes and supervises on- and off-center recreation activities for students at Oneonta Job Corps. The role exists to provide engaging recreation, sports, educational events, and health and wellness activities while supporting students’ fitness, nutrition, and healthy lifestyle choices. It also coordinates trips and maintains the facilities, equipment, and records needed for the program.

What you'll do

• Organize and supervise on- and off-center recreation activities
• develop ideas for recreation, sporting, educational, health, and wellness events
• guide students on fitness, nutrition, and healthy lifestyle choices
• prepare activity schedules and calendars
• coordinate field trips
• maintain recreation facilities and equipment
• track attendance
• order supplies
• transport students to and from center-sponsored events
• reinforce positive behavior.

Why this role

Four shift patterns are listed, including evening and weekend hours; on-call hours may be filled where help is needed. A high school diploma or GED and one year working with youth are required; a CDL Class B with passenger endorsement must be obtained within three months of hire, with training provided.
