The Lab Assistant position is onsite in South Portland, ME. Compensation is not specified. The role supports InterMed’s laboratory services by obtaining patient specimens and preparing them for transport to main and reference laboratories. The assistant helps ensure accurate specimen collection, processing, documentation, and routing. The work supports patient care by maintaining correct identification and labeling, completing electronic medical record and laboratory information system workflows, and following site procedures and applicable safety and quality requirements.

What you'll do

• Put patients at ease and obtain specimens, including performing phlebotomy for adult and pediatric patients. Identify patients using two unique identifiers
• accession and process samples in LIS and EMR systems
• instruct patients on urine, stool, and sputum collection
• select and label specimen tubes
• prepare samples for transport
• maintain supplies and work areas
• perform point-of-care testing and quality-control documentation
• and follow OSHA and CLIA requirements.

Why this role

Successful completion of a phlebotomy or lab assistant training course is required. One year of phlebotomy experience with varied patient populations and specimen processing is preferred.
