Job overview

The Fall Outdoor Science School Counselor role is onsite at the Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center in Orange, CA. Pay is $16.90–$18 per hour, for up to 30 hours per week. The season starts in September 2026, with daytime shifts from 8 a.m.–5 p.m. or evening shifts from 4:15–9 p.m.; weekday availability is preferred. Scouting America’s mission is to help young people make ethical and moral choices by instilling the values of the Scout Oath and Law. The counselor presents written science and California history curriculum, leads activities, and helps maintain a focused and safe learning environment for youth. The role supports participants’ needs, addresses behavior concerns with supervisors, and works with the center’s staff to deliver outdoor education programs.

What you'll do

  • Teach written curriculum and underlying science and California history concepts
  • work with elementary, middle, and high school age groups
  • lead songs, skits, and group games
  • maintain a focused learning environment
  • follow safety protocols
  • work with supervisors on participant behavior using compassionate de-escalation
  • assist with equipment inventory and maintenance
  • collaborate with center staff.
