Railcar Repair Technician

The Railcar Repair Technician role is onsite in Chesterton, IN, with pay of $23.80–$36 per hour. The position may require up to three weeks of offsite training in Hamlet, NC. Compass Rail Services provides railcar repair and transloading services to clients in the rail transportation industry. The technician inspects freight railcars in service or during short dwell times, identifies defects, and performs safe minor repairs so cars can remain in service when appropriate and meet applicable FRA, AAR, and company standards.

What you'll do

• Inspect freight railcars for mechanical defects, damage, or wear
• perform minor running repairs such as replacing brake shoes, adjusting rigging, and repairing safety appliances
• document defects and repairs
• operate repair tools and equipment
• coordinate with railroad personnel
• and follow safety procedures, including PPE and Lockout/Tagout when necessary.
