The Data Scientist / Engineer role is hybrid in Boston, MA. The base salary range is $100,000–$110,000 per year. The role is part of Shift Technology’s Data Science team, which supports the company’s insurance clients and enterprise solutions. The role contributes to the U.S. insurance roadmap by building data pipelines and deploying AI solutions for insurance use cases such as subrogation, claims handling, and document understanding. It combines data engineering, machine learning, agentic AI development, responsible-AI practices, and client engagement to help deliver explainable, production-ready solutions.

What you'll do

• Build and productionize structured, text, document, and image data pipelines optimized for LLMs and multimodal models
• design and deploy LLM-based solutions using RAG, embeddings, and instruction tuning
• experiment with agentic AI technologies and develop MVPs for autonomous subrogation solutions
• develop Chain-of-Thought and ReAct prompting strategies
• create tools that connect agents to databases, APIs, and telemetry calculations
• establish evaluation frameworks
• support privacy, explainability, hallucination mitigation, and compliance
• lead client workshops, present prototypes, gather feedback, and help define roadmap priorities.
