The Applied AI Engineer, Document Intelligence role is onsite in Iselin, NJ. Compensation is $140,000–$170,000 per year. The role supports Fortegra’s AI-enabled commercial insurance systems for processing and reviewing complex documents. The engineer builds and improves production document-intelligence features, evaluates system behavior against real documents, and investigates failures across models, parsing, and application logic. This work helps deliver dependable, evidence-grounded outputs for underwriting and policy audits.

What you'll do

• Build applied-AI features for document parsing, OCR, classification, routing, extraction, normalization, reconciliation, retrieval, and summarization
• maintain evaluation sets and analyze failures
• work with domain experts to define schemas, examples, validation rules, and acceptance criteria
• compare models, OCR tools, services, and internal implementations
• build, debug, test, review, and operate Python and Azure Functions services
• improve observability and production readiness.
