The Youth Development Specialist — Housing Services is an onsite, full-time role in Hilo, HI, paying $23.50 per hour. The Salvation Army’s Family Intervention Services unit provides housing and transitional services to youth and young adults in Hawaii County, including those experiencing or at risk of homelessness, former foster youth, and youth involved in the juvenile justice system. The unit’s mission is to help youth build healthy-life skills and purpose, hope, and vision. The specialist provides outreach, housing assistance, assessments, case management, crisis intervention, and individualized transitional support. The role helps young people connect with housing resources and develop skills for independent living, education, employment, and community participation.

What you'll do

• Provide outreach to runaway, homeless, and at-risk youth and young adults
• provide housing information and assistance
• conduct assessments and case management and develop individualized independent living plans
• provide transitional support in education, life skills, employment, financial aid, and community awareness
• provide crisis intervention
• connect clients with housing resources
• support youth in agency and independent living arrangements
• coordinate with the Transitional Services Collaboration Team
• maintain case records and reports
• provide educational services using multiple media formats
• obtain agency vehicle certification to transport youth
• attend required meetings and training.
