Respiratory Care Practitioner (RRT) PRN at Methodist Hospital Texsan in San Antonio, TX. This is an onsite position. Compensation is not specified. This role assesses, treats, and cares for patients with pulmonary disorders, operating and setting up devices such as mechanical ventilators and therapeutic gas administration. The practitioner is responsible for the clinical administration of all therapeutic and diagnostic respiratory care modalities offered by the department.

What you'll do

• Operate and set up devices such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration, aerosol generators, and disposable respiratory care products while following specific parameters for treatment.
• Provide emergency care, including artificial ventilation, external cardiac massage, and assist staff with cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
• Collect and analyze arterial blood gases and recognize normal, abnormal and critical values and provide appropriate corrective intervention.
• Follow physician orders for treatment and evaluate requirements for treatment, such as treatment type, mode and duration of therapy, universal precautions, and medication dosage.
• Monitor patient’s response to therapy by evaluation of vital signs, arterial blood gases, auscultation of breath sounds, pulse oximetry and end-tidal CO2 measurement.
• Consult with physicians, nurses and other health care professionals for changes in patient’s status and work as part of the team to manage the patient’s plan of care.

What we're looking for

Education

Graduate of an approved Respiratory Therapy Program.

Experience

1 year previous Respiratory Therapy experience preferred
