The Optometric Technician role is an onsite, full-time position in Ukiah, CA, with compensation of $25–$31 per hour. The technician supports optometrists at Mendocino Community Health Clinic in delivering eye care and clinic services. The role contributes to patient care by performing preliminary and diagnostic testing, preparing patients for examinations, and assisting with delegated clinical duties. It also supports patient flow, education, equipment quality, and clinic operations.

What you'll do

• Perform preliminary optometric and ophthalmic tests, including visual acuity, tonometry, auto-refraction, auto-keratometry, color vision, and stereo acuity
• conduct fundus photography, OCT, and visual field testing
• collect medical history and document clinical information
• assist optometrists during examinations
• educate patients on testing and follow-up
• support registration and insurance verification
• clean and disinfect rooms and equipment
• perform routine equipment maintenance and quality checks
• monitor and restock supplies.

Why this role

Requires a high school diploma or GED, at least one year of optometric technician or related optometry clinical experience, and current CPR certification. Spanish fluency and paraoptometric certification are preferred.
