Breastfeeding Peer Counselor

The Breastfeeding Peer Counselor role is based in Ephrata, PA, with other locations as assigned. Compensation is $16 per hour. The position supports the organization’s WIC program. The counselor provides basic breastfeeding information and encouragement to pregnant and breastfeeding participants, maintains ongoing contact, and helps connect participants with appropriate clinical and community resources. Classes, support groups, and outreach help promote breastfeeding and awareness of the peer counseling program.

What you'll do

• Provide basic breastfeeding information, including benefits and positioning and latch
• maintain contact with pregnant participants to encourage breastfeeding initiation
• address common barriers
• support new mothers with common concerns
• issue breast pumps and provide instruction
• assist with or lead classes and facilitate support groups
• share program information with community partners
• attend community events
• refer participants to lactation consultants, medical providers, and public health programs as appropriate.
