Direct Support Staff / Independent Living Skills Instructor

The Direct Support Staff / Independent Living Skills Instructor role is onsite in Oakland, CA, providing instruction in participants’ homes and community settings. Pay is $20 per hour. Zula’s Helping Hands supports adults in building practical skills and working toward assigned IPP and ISP objectives. The instructor provides individualized, person-centered teaching that helps participants develop independence while respecting their choices, dignity, and privacy. The role uses practical instruction, documentation, and coordination with supervisors to support each participant’s authorized plan and community participation.

What you'll do

• Provide individualized 1:1 instruction tied to assigned IPP and ISP objectives
• teach independent living skills such as cooking, cleaning, shopping, money management, transportation, personal health and hygiene, self-advocacy, and community safety. Use modeling, explanations, role play, visual supports, assistive technology, and repeated practice. Document progress and follow each person’s ISP, safety information, and authorized schedule
• report incidents and service concerns promptly. Travel between participants’ homes and community locations.
