School Social Worker, Special Education

The School Social Worker, Special Education role is onsite at Detroit Service Learning Academy and Redford Service Learning Academy in Detroit, MI. Pay is $43–$50 per hour. The position is in the Special Education department and supports students and their home, school, and community partnerships. The social worker assesses students’ social and psychological needs, recommends individualized education program services, and helps determine eligibility for special education services. Through assessment, consultation, intervention, and collaboration with families and school teams, the role helps address barriers to learning and support student development.

What you'll do

• Assess students and recommend IEP services
• determine eligibility for special education services
• provide social work services and assistance to improve social and psychological functioning
• work with community groups to develop supportive resources
• collaborate with IEP team members, parents, teachers, and administrators
• consult on intervention strategies
• conduct social development studies
• administer standardized behavior scales
• observe students and interpret findings
• prepare objective diagnostic reports
• provide crisis intervention as appropriate and requested.
