Humane Investigator

The Humane Investigator role is onsite in San Mateo, CA, with starting pay of $32–$35 per hour. The position is part of the Peninsula Humane Society’s Animal Rescue & Control Division, which investigates animal cruelty and neglect complaints. The investigator evaluates reports, gathers and documents evidence, prepares case files, and supports legal proceedings. The role contributes to animal protection through investigations, public education, and coordination with law enforcement and other agencies.

What you'll do

• Receive, evaluate, and respond to animal cruelty or neglect complaints
• enter case information and maintain activity reports
• impound or seize animals as required
• collect and store evidence
• photograph and document potential crime scenes
• conduct interviews
• prepare case reports and files for requesting agencies
• testify in court or seizure hearings
• prepare and execute search and arrest warrants
• issue citations and notices
• educate the public on animal care
• assist Animal Rescue & Control and law enforcement agencies.
