Principal Staff Electrical Engineer

Job overview

The Principal Staff Electrical Engineer role is onsite in Lake Zurich, IL, with occasional travel to laboratories in the Chicago region potentially required. Compensation is $120,000–$150,000 per year. The role supports Astronics’ aerospace, defense, and other mission-critical technology work. The engineer leads complex electrical design programs, develops system architectures, and supports verification, regulatory compliance, and transfer of designs into manufacturing. The role also provides technical direction and mentorship to engineers and contributes to electrical engineering processes and quality.

What you'll do

• Design PCB assemblies and manage bills of materials, revisions, configuration, bring-up, debugging, and issue tracking
• design multilayer PCBs for high-speed communications, wireless, microcontroller, power-management, and interface functions
• develop product verification tests, reports, and scripts
• develop electrical system architectures
• select and use test equipment
• mentor engineers and interns
• support manufacturing transfer and regulatory compliance testing
• lead complex cross-functional programs and design reviews.
