Project Accountant

Job overview

The Project Accountant role is onsite in Sterling, VA during initial training, with potential limited work-from-home flexibility after approximately six months. Compensation is $75,000–$100,000 annually. The position supports financial management of construction projects for a large, established organization. The accountant manages project-level financial activity throughout the project lifecycle, helping project managers and operational teams maintain accurate billing, cost tracking, reporting, vendor compliance, and risk controls.

What you'll do

• Coordinate accounting for construction projects
• prepare and analyze monthly billings under multiple contract structures
• monitor costs against budgets and investigate variances
• maintain budgets, cost codes, commitments, and financial records
• produce job-cost reports
• track revenue, costs, billings, and cash flow
• partner with project managers
• manage vendor and subcontractor compliance documents
• support change orders, month-end close, audits, and project closeout.
