Senior Research Engineer — Frontier AI

The Senior Research Engineer role is onsite in San Francisco, CA. Compensation is $250,000–$350,000 OTE plus equity. Turing develops datasets, reinforcement-learning environments, and research benchmarks for frontier AI labs and enterprise applications. The engineer investigates frontier AI systems and builds research-grade experiments, prototypes, datasets, and evaluation tools. The work turns evidence-based research findings into scalable improvements for Turing’s products, platforms, and AI capabilities through collaboration across research, engineering, product, and operations.

What you'll do

• Investigate frontier AI capabilities, limitations, and training methods
• formulate research questions
• explore synthetic and agentic data generation, reinforcement learning, post-training, model understanding, benchmarks, and evaluation
• develop datasets, experiments, prototypes, tooling, and evaluation frameworks
• train, test, and evaluate models
• analyze results and support rigor, reproducibility, and data quality
• collaborate across teams to translate findings into practical applications
• communicate findings and contribute to research discussions and publications where appropriate.
