Job overview

The Professional Mentor “Friend” role is onsite in Spokane, WA, with a 40-hour work schedule typical of standard business hours and some flexibility with supervisor approval. Compensation is $24.50–$26.00 per hour. Friends of the Children Eastern Washington provides long-term professional mentoring to children from kindergarten through high school graduation. The Friend builds sustained, supportive relationships with children and families, promotes each child’s strengths and well-being, and supports life skills, academic development, and cultural connections over the long term.

What you'll do

  • Build long-term relationships with children
  • spend time with them individually and in groups at school and in the community
  • partner with caregivers
  • set goals based on each child’s strengths and needs
  • teach life skills and reinforce academic skills
  • provide enrichment and cultural activities
  • document activities and evaluations
  • attend team meetings
  • and transport children as required for mentoring activities.
