What you'll do

• Greet patients respectfully
• prepare patients for examinations or procedures and assist providers as needed
• alert physicians to life-threatening complaints or dangerously abnormal vital signs
• document patient care
• perform diagnostic tests such as glucose testing
• may perform follow-up procedures such as blood pressure checks and blood draws
• coordinate care with hospital departments and external offices
• answer phones, schedule visits, register patients, maintain supplies, clean and sterilize instruments, and enter charges.
