Test Engineer — Embedded Hardware and Software

The Test Engineer role is based at Shift5’s headquarters in Rosslyn, VA, and requires up to 20% travel. Compensation is $110,000–$140,000 per year. Shift5 develops observability, cybersecurity, predictive maintenance, and compliance capabilities for onboard operational technology. The engineer qualifies embedded hardware and software products, builds production test automation, and supports hardware, firmware, and software integration in hardware-in-the-loop environments. The work helps ensure product quality, reliability, and compliance through test execution, documentation, and collaboration across engineering and production teams.

What you'll do

• Develop and deploy automated production test scripts and frameworks
• troubleshoot production test failures
• maintain test software, procedures, and fixtures under version control
• design and execute hardware qualification and compliance test plans
• manage test setups and data collection internally and at third-party labs
• maintain the HIL lab and integrate test benches and instrumentation
• support design verification, regression testing, and system integration
• document test plans, procedures, reports, and verification artifacts.
