Underground Drill Operator

Job overview

The Underground Drill Operator role is onsite in Cold Spring, MN, with compensation of $24–$30 per hour. The operator works with the Foreman and crew to install underground utilities, including telecommunications conduits and cables, while minimizing surface disruption. The role operates directional drilling and locating equipment, interprets utility plans, and coordinates with utility companies and contractors to avoid existing infrastructure. It also supports safe, compliant, and accurate job-site work through equipment inspections, site setup, and adherence to excavation and regulatory requirements.

What you'll do

• Operate horizontal directional drill equipment to install underground utilities
• inspect and maintain equipment
• read utility maps, plans, and blueprints
• set up and clean job sites
• load and unload equipment, materials, and tools
• coordinate with utility companies and contractors to confirm existing utility locations
• meet quality, regulatory, and customer requirements
• work with the Foreman and crew.

Why this role

High school diploma or GED, valid driver’s license, ability to obtain a DOT medical card, and proven utility drill operator experience are required. Five or more years of experience is preferred. A CDL with tanker endorsement is required when operating commercial vehicle and trailer combinations over 26,000 pounds.
