The Staff/Senior Software Engineer role is hybrid in San Carlos, CA, with some remote days possible. The annual pay range is $150,000–$220,000. The role supports Swift Solar’s mission to unlock the potential of solar energy by building AI products that help scientists advance next-generation solar solutions. The engineer leads development of planning and reasoning systems that use scientific literature and lab and manufacturing data to help select experiments. The role also improves evaluation of AI agents, turns prototypes into production tools, maintains data systems, and contributes to engineering quality and team growth.

What you'll do

• Lead development of the planning and reasoning layer for multi-agent systems that guide experiment selection
• build AI products that assist scientists
• evaluate frontier models and internal agents on previously addressed problems
• rapidly prototype with scientists and harden successful ideas into production systems
• review AI-written code and maintain documentation and tests
• help maintain data systems and instrument-data pipelines
• review code and help hire and mentor engineers
• contribute to whitepapers, papers, and conference presentations when appropriate.
