Assistant Watch Engineer – Relief is an onsite role in Duluth, MN, with rotating shifts; work is generally 10-hour days and may be 12-hour shifts when covering as an assistant. Pay is $47.28 per hour. Duluth Energy Systems, a city-owned steam plant, provides heat to buildings in Canal Park and downtown Duluth. Under the Operating Watch Engineer, the role supports safe, reliable, uninterrupted plant operation by monitoring and adjusting equipment, recording operating conditions, preparing systems for maintenance, and performing plant maintenance and relief coverage.

What you'll do

• Start and stop equipment, align systems, and monitor and adjust operating equipment
• make plant rounds and record conditions
• maintain shift logs
• perform lockout/tagout and drain equipment to prepare it safely for maintenance
• cover employee PTO
• safely reenergize and start equipment
• operate a skid-steer loader to move coal, ash, and snow
• maintain plant equipment
• communicate equipment status to the Operating Watch Engineer.
