Shelter Worker — Emergency Response

The Shelter Worker role is onsite at disaster response locations across Louisiana; the listing location is New Orleans, LA. Compensation is $20–$22 per hour. The Workforce Group partners with federal, state, and local governments to meet community needs during emergency response operations. Shelter Workers help provide displaced residents with a safe, clean, and respectful environment by supporting intake, distributing supplies, monitoring shared spaces, and following shelter safety procedures. These are seasonal positions that may require short-notice deployment and travel.

What you'll do

• Assist with resident intake, registration, and orientation
• distribute meals, hygiene items, bedding, and other supplies
• monitor common areas for safety and cleanliness
• respond to general inquiries and assist with special needs when possible
• document and report incidents
• follow shelter policies and safety procedures
• help set up and break down facilities.
