Zoning Technician

The Zoning Technician role is onsite in Bay City, MI. Pay is $31.20 per hour. The position is part of the City of Bay City’s Community Development department and supports administration of the city’s planning and zoning ordinances. The technician reviews permits and applications, provides zoning guidance, maintains property and zoning records, and supports enforcement and public processes. The role helps the city assess compliance and provide accurate information to residents, developers, builders, and officials.

What you'll do

• Provide zoning information to the public, developers, builders, and city officials
• review building, sign, fence, site-plan, and business applications for zoning compliance
• research nonconforming determinations and compliance status
• use GIS tools for mapping and property data
• maintain records and databases
• oversee marijuana facility license applications and renewals
• recommend code and rule changes
• resolve customer service issues
• serve as staff liaison to the Zoning Board of Appeals and as Zoning Enforcement Officer
• support plan review, inspections, and enforcement
• conduct site visits and field investigations as needed.

Why this role

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and an associate degree in a related field, or a specified combination of high school education and relevant municipal planning or zoning experience. A valid Michigan driver’s license is required.
