Food Pantry Assistant

Job overview

The Food Pantry Assistant role is onsite in Chesapeake, VA, and pays $15 per hour. The position supports First Baptist Church South Hill’s Food Pantry Ministry and its Christian service mission. The assistant helps the pantry receive, organize, document, and distribute food and related resources while supporting volunteers and welcoming guests with dignity and care. Accurate records, safe food handling, and dependable operational support help the ministry serve households and meet applicable Foodbank and church procedures.

What you'll do

• Assist with food pickups and deliveries, unloading, sorting, storage, and distribution preparation
• stock shelves and rotate inventory
• assemble distributions according to ministry guidelines and documented household needs
• monitor supplies and report shortages or safety concerns
• set up, operate, and clean distribution areas
• welcome guests and explain procedures
• assist with volunteer check-in and task assignments
• record inventory and distribution activity
• help organize Foodbank reporting records and maintain files
• follow food-safety and church property procedures.
