The Senior Advanced Machinist role is onsite in Cullman, AL, with compensation of $38.90–$42.67 per hour. General Dynamics Mission Systems’ Precision Structures & Optics team manufactures beryllium products for demanding aerospace, defense, and nuclear applications. The machinist produces precision components by setting up and operating CNC and manual equipment, following controlled procedures and engineering specifications. The role also troubleshoots complex machining issues, helps prevent nonconforming product, and mentors less-experienced machinists.

What you'll do

• Set up and operate CNC and manual mills, lathes, and grinders
• produce precision components to engineering drawings and close tolerances
• interpret GD&T, setup sheets, routers, and work instructions
• perform complex setups and verify tool offsets and coordinates
• load and verify CNC programs and conduct controlled prove-outs
• monitor tool wear and part quality
• troubleshoot machining issues
• report and segregate nonconforming material
• mentor less-experienced machinists
• follow safety and machine-guarding requirements.
