Job overview

The Transitional Living Program Resident Advisor role is onsite at an assigned facility in Arlington Heights, IL, with occasional work in vehicles and at other agency sites. Pay is $22.60 per hour. Shelter Youth & Family Services provides housing and support programs for children and families, including transitional living for young adults. The advisor provides trauma-informed supervision and mentoring to residents ages 17–21, helping them build skills for independent living. The role supports residents’ educational, employment, housing, and personal goals while maintaining a safe, structured living environment.

What you'll do

  • Supervise and mentor residents
  • support daily routines, life skills, educational support, recreation, and goal setting
  • model healthy coping, communication, and boundaries
  • use de-escalation strategies during crises
  • transport residents to appointments and meetings as needed
  • support chores and shared responsibilities
  • monitor safety and maintenance concerns
  • maintain a clean, organized living environment
  • document progress, incidents, and services
  • attend staff meetings and training.

Why this role
