AI Engineering Lead

Job overview

The AI Engineering Lead role is onsite in Troy, MI. Compensation is $50–$55 per hour. The lead will own production AI/ML and large language model engineering, including architecture, evaluation, observability, and cost optimization.

What you'll do

• Define architecture for production AI/ML and LLM systems, including agentic workflows and retrieval-augmented generation
• establish prompt engineering standards, versioning, and guardrails
• build offline and online evaluation frameworks
• implement AI observability and drift detection
• optimize model costs
• lead, mentor, and review AI engineers
• partner with architecture, security, and business teams on responsible-AI and governance controls
• take ownership of technical continuity after a one-month knowledge transition.
