Maintenance Mechanic

The Maintenance Mechanic position is onsite in Portsmouth, VA; compensation is not specified. Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority’s mission is to enhance residents’ quality of life through resource acquisition, asset management, and innovative opportunities. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager for assigned properties, the mechanic completes skilled building maintenance, renovation, and repair work, including HVAC and general building trades. The role also responds to work orders and emergency maintenance needs in accordance with applicable codes.

What you'll do

• Complete work orders and emergency maintenance responses
• install and repair cabinets, sinks, and doors
• perform carpentry, plaster, drywall, minor plumbing, electrical repairs, and painting
• repair furnaces, heat pumps, and HVAC equipment
• participate in preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, and new construction
• document work
• plan and schedule tasks and estimate materials
• troubleshoot maintenance problems
• maintain equipment
• and assist with refuse pickup and disposal as assigned.
